Part 4: Practice Plan, Pressure Practice, and Video

#64 Tip | Practice Plan

One of the most important aspects of a coach is always have a practice plan, if you are prepared then you will get more out of your athletes at practice. Some of the best coaches in the world use white boards to display the practice plan to the team, some even go minute by minute. A great way to come up with a plan is to find the weaknesses of the team and start there, also being flexible is important. It is great to have a set plan but having an open mind and changing things on the fly is a part of the game as well. -Juliann Faucette Johnson, BSN SPORTS Volleyball Brand Ambassador

#78  Tip | Practice Pressure

Creating pressure in practice is a great way to make your team equip for matches. Here are three ways to increase pressure during practice. One, player initiate more often, this is a great way to make your athletes must step up and have ball control; the less you initiate the more game like it is. Two, score everything, even the smallest of drills can be scored, this helps bring awareness and urgency with every ball your team is touching. Finally, finish the drill, never let your team off the hook, if you set a goal of getting to ten in a row make sure your tea attains that goal before moving on. If you are pressed for time come back to the same drill tomorrow, make it known that they won’t be let off the hook.  -Juliann Faucette Johnson, BSN SPORTS Volleyball Brand Ambassador

#81  Tip | Video

Sometimes it may feel like we repeat the same feedback repeatedly. One of the ways to get your team to self-coach is to be seeing themselves on video. Not all of us have resources to get fancy equipment, but I am here to tell you if you have a tablet or smartphone you can make it happen. Find an app that has delayed video playback and video your team. For example, during hitting lines set up your video to delay for a few seconds, you will see quick results because they will be able to analyze their form from the video. This is simple but will do wonders in your gym.  -Juliann Faucette Johnson, BSN SPORTS Volleyball Brand Ambassador
